Bruges offer up 7 new tracks on their latest record, A Thread of Light. The band find themselves harnessing the power of repetition to their advantage building a tension throughout the listen that rarely lets up. At times that tension comes to lush breath in the song "Translucent" as the band builds to a dream-like soundscape. This catching of breath only lasts a moment as the track "Not Here" follows with a bludgeoning racket of sludgy noise rock. This balance of rhythmic tension is a constant throughout the record which comes to a harrowing halt at the end, where Bruges find the ultimate distillation of their sound in "A Range of Light".

This is only one of my favorites.
Everything about this record makes me remember what it feels like to discover a song and marvel at its nuances.
The video for this song is like a combo of someone picking out their favorite records only to reshuffle the deck.
Solitaire played with vinyl.
